Leader Schumer Floor Remarks On Democrats' Plan To Block Republicans' Voter Suppression Bill, The SAVE Act

If MAGA Republicans want to bog down the Senate over a debate on voter suppression, Democrats are ready.

We are ready to be here all day, all night, as long as it takes to ensure the powers of voter suppression do not win the day.

Let me be very clear, the SAVE Act is not a voter ID bill. It is in every sense a voter suppression bill.

It could purge millions of American citizens from the voter rolls through a screening algorithm designed by Elon Musk’s DOGE squad. It could disenfranchise over 20 million American citizens. It would kill online voter registration. It would kill vote by mail. It would kill motor voter registration.

What does any of that have to do with election security? It doesn’t. It’s a naked attempt to rig our elections.

The SAVE Act also rejects the most common forms of ID for anyone trying to register. The way this works, you don’t have to be notified if you’re kicked off the rolls. You show up on election day and they say, “we’re sorry Mr. Smith, Ms. Jones, you’re not on the rolls anymore.” And then they make it impossible to re-register. Certainly, on that day you lose your right to vote.

Driver’s licenses are no longer enough. The most common ID forms for anyone to register are rejected in the SAVE Act, for the first time in just about every state. Not even military IDs would be enough. Can you believe that? That would be radical.

It would force Americans to register only in person, something only 5% of Americans do today.

It punishes married women who change their last names.

The SAVE Act is not about protecting the vote, it is about making it harder to vote and easier to steal an election.

And we know what the deal is here. Donald Trump says if Republicans pass the SAVE Act, it guarantees the midterm. The senior senator from Utah says Republicans will lose power, likely for a long time, if they don't get the SAVE American Act passed. That's the whole game. It’s cynical. It’s beneath the Senate. It’s beneath democracy.

Senate Democrats will never let this rotten bill move through this body.

Aside from the con artist, I am tired of all these weak, spineless, cowardly men who serve him

in his Administration and as Representatives of his Party in Congress. All of them are gutless, impotent, paper tiger, tough guy wannabes who are too feeble to tell him no and they mindlessly parrot whatever stupid talking point he wants them to say.

Senate Republicans are going to spend days, perhaps weeks, talking about their unconstitutional election takeover bill

Even though it does not have the votes, even though we are at war thanks to the con artist, even though they refuse to do anything about their illegal and lethal ICE operation, even though they refuse to pay TSA workers and fund FEMA and the Coast Guard.

They are going to waste everyones time talking about bathrooms, kooky election conspiracy theories, and how they must let the con artist take over as the authority and enforcer of our elections so he can pick and choose which citizens he wants to allow to vote and which citizens he wants to purge.

Republicans have lost everyone other than some straight, white, practicing or non practicing religious

extremists who share bigoted and prejudiced ideology.

The Republican Party is underwater in public opinion. Most Americans do not like what they are doing, do not like what they are saying, and do not want to allign with them.

In 24 Hours, Senate Republicans Block Five Separate Bills to Fund TSA, FEMA, CISA, Coast Guard, & Other DHS Functions

“This isn’t complicated: if Republicans won’t agree to rein in ICE and Border Patrol, they should at minimum work with us to pay TSA agents and fund disaster relief. But they won’t,” said Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. “Right now, Republicans are holding TSA agents’ paychecks hostage because they want to provide more money to ICE, without basic reforms to protect Americans’ rights and safety. Democrats will keep fighting to get TSA workers paid and fund FEMA and the Coast Guard, and we’ll keep pushing to enact common-sense steps to prevent more Americans from being hurt, or even killed, by masked federal agents.”

Senate Democrats letter to Hegseth on bombing of girl's school

Secretary Hegseth,

We write with grave concern regarding the airstrikes on a girls’ elementary school that reportedly killed at least 168 people – mostly children – in Minab, Iran during the opening salvo of U.S. and Israeli operations on Iran on February 28.1 To be clear, the war against Iran is a war of choice without
Congressional authorization. Nonetheless, as these military actions continue, the United States and Israel must abide by U.S. and international law, including the law of armed conflict. There must be a swift investigation into the strikes on this school and any other potential U.S. military actions causing civilian harm, and the findings must be released to the public as soon as possible, along with any measures to
pursue accountability.

The results of this school attack are horrific. The majority of those killed in the strikes were girls between the ages of 7 and 12 years old.2
Neither the United States nor the Israeli Government has yet taken responsibility for this attack. On March 4, you acknowledged that the United States was looking into the strikes at the school, saying "all I know, all I can say, is that we're investigating that," but shared no information about a timeline for review nor a commitment to accountability.3 A New York Times analysis of available evidence suggests that U.S. forces most likely struck the school amid attacks on an adjacent Iranian naval base, despite satellite imagery showing that the building had been walled off from the
military base and used as a school since at least 2016.4 And U.S. military investigators themselves reportedly believe that U.S. forces were likely responsible.

Public support for a war has never increased over time

Public support is at it's highest point at the time war begins and erodes as time goes on.

Public support for the con's war started off negative.

Senator Blumenthal says we seem to be on the path to deploying troops to Iran

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) left a Senate Armed Service Committee briefing on the Iran war Tuesday saying he believes the Trump administration is on a path to putting U.S. troops on the ground in Iran.

“We seem to be on a path toward deploying American troops on the ground in Iran to accomplish any of the potential objectives,” the senator told reporters after the briefing.

Blumenthal said he left the briefing “as dissatisfied and angry, frankly, as I have from any past briefing in my 15 years in the Senate.”

“I am left with more questions than answers, especially about the cost of the war,” he said. “My questions have been unanswered, and I will demand answers because the American people deserve to know.”

'Forever war:' Democrats rebut Trump's assertion that Iran war nearing end

Senate Democrats on Tuesday rebutted President Donald Trump’s claims that the war in Iran may soon be over, warning that the U.S. risks getting dragged into another prolonged conflict in the Middle East.

The concerns from Democrats who attended a bipartisan classified briefing with military brass on Tuesday stand in stark contrast with the president, who on Monday suggested the U.S. may be nearing the completion of its operation. Trump’s statements sent slumping markets soaring and cratered oil prices that had skyrocketed in recent days.

“What I heard is not just concerning, it is disturbing,” Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, whose members were briefed. “I’m not sure what the endgame is or what their plans are. ... And if he does want to put us in a forever war, which it seems like he does, he needs to come out and let us be able to have that discussion.”

“Do you think because he thinks he waves some magic wand that everything just stops? ... It’s not going to stop just because he wishes it to be so,” Rosen said.

It seems we still have no clear idea of what is going on and what the con's plan is. Probably because the con artist has no idea of what he is doing.
